Payson
Surrounded by national forest and replete with breathtaking mountain vistas, Payson, Arizona is an outdoor paradise. Creeks and trout streams flow from the Mogollon Rim above the city, while a 35-mile drive encompassing seven lakes provides numerous trails (hiking, biking and equestrian), camping, hunting and fishing. This natural beauty and rugged landscape is what attracted the late American Western Novelist Zane Grey to the Payson area.

Payson Attractions
Payson is North Central Arizona’s year-round, premier vacation destination - and for good reason. With more than 300 days of glorious sunshine a year, pristine mountain views, a rich western heritage and fresh mountain air, it's a wonderful environment to play in. Payson also holds the distinction of being one of only three pure air ozone belts in the world, offering stargazers a perfect environment for looking skyward.
Payson History & Culture
For many years, Main Street was the social center of the Rim Country. Once a dusty thoroughfare, it featured mercantile stores, saloons, hotels, boarding houses, livery stables, a blacksmith shop and a sawmill. Steeped in the legend and lore of the Old West, Payson's historic Main Street is fast becoming a tourist destination in its own right.
At one end is the Sawmill Crossing Complex and at the other, award-winning Green Valley Park. Besides a host of shopping opportunities for antiques, gifts, scrapbooking supplies, books and other treasures, Main Street features several special museums, family restaurants and a historic cowboy OxBow saloon.
